About this guide

How the glyphs are built

Every ray, ring and dot on a Nine Glyphs sign is drawn from a published fact, and each fact was checked on October 7, 2026. The transit dots are measured by the guide on TransLink's open data, as straight lines from each casino.

Where the facts come from

Each glyph starts from the casino's own pages: its hours, its games, its poker room, hotel and racebook. Some casino sites block automated reading. For those, the facts were read from archived copies of the same pages. Every fact was checked on October 7, 2026.

The age and ID rules come from provincial pages. Gambling in B.C. requires being 19 or older, and people under 19 may not enter gambling venues. Since June 26, 2023, every person entering a B.C. casino must show government-issued photo ID.

From hours to rays

Each casino publishes its hours in Pacific local time, and the guide reads them into one week. A ray is the number of hours the floor is open on one calendar day, from 12 AM to 12 AM. A full ray is 24 hours.

Hours that run past midnight count toward the next day's ray. A Friday closing at 2 AM lends its last hours to Saturday. The inner ring follows the same rule for the live tables.

British Columbia keeps Pacific time all year. The last clock change was on March 8, 2026, and the clocks do not go back on November 1, 2026. Holidays are not drawn; holiday hours should be checked on the casino's own site.

The transit dot

The fourth dot comes from TransLink's GTFS feed, the open data behind its schedules. The guide takes every SkyTrain station and bus exchange in it and measures a straight line from each casino's map point. A hub within 1 km fills the dot.

These are straight lines between map coordinates, not walking or driving distances. A walking route is never shorter, and the guide does not measure it. At Grand Villa Casino Burnaby, the bus bays of Gilmore Station are 1.0 km away. The Langley Centre bus exchange is 0.1 km from Cascades Casino Langley.

What a glyph cannot hold

A glyph holds hours and four yes-or-no marks, nothing more. It does not show crowds. Prices, parking rates and game counts stay off the sign. Holidays are not drawn either. Holiday hours should be checked on the casino's own site, since the published hours do not cover them.

Questions about the marks

Why is the Grand Villa transit dot filled at 1.0 km?

The threshold is 1 km in a straight line, and the bus bays of Gilmore Station sit 1.0 km from Grand Villa Casino Burnaby. That places them within the limit, so the dot is filled. They are the only transit hub within 1 km of the casino.

How often are the facts checked?

Every fact on the site carries one date: October 7, 2026. The casinos' own pages and official sources were checked on that day. A change made after that date would not yet show on a glyph.
